Many patients are not aware that periodontal maintenance is the only sure way to keep gum disease from returning. Periodontal maintenance is regularly performed at certain intervals after procedures such as scaling and root planing. Periodontal maintenance includes the removal of plaque and tartar, scaling and tooth planing and polishing. Your dentist will determine the frequency the periodontal maintenance is needed.
We see gum disease often but treat it aggressively to help maintain a healthy smile. We make sure to take our time to understand the health of not only your mouth but how it affects the rest of your body as well.
Gum disease, or periodontal disease, is initially treated with deep cleanings, also known as Scaling and Root Planing. Once all of the bacteria is removed and the tooth surfaces are made smooth, we then maintain your oral health with frequent checkups.
We want you to have a beautiful smile, but just like a beautiful home, it requires a sturdy and healthy foundation upon which to build. Establishing gum health is the key to a solid foundation.
Crown lengthening is a simple surgery used to create more space for our beautiful custom-made crowns.
When not enough tooth structure is present, we can remove a little bit of bone around the top of the tooth to create additional space and support for the custom-made crown.
Another tool in our tool chest against gum disease. Gum disease affects the bony support around your teeth, creating deep pockets around the teeth for food to get caught in.
After the gum disease is controlled, we may be able to surgically move the gum tissue around the tooth to the new bone level to minimize the depth of the pockets. This prevents more food from getting caught around the teeth and allows you to more easily clean and maintain your beautiful smile.
Soft tissue grafting can be an option to fight recession around your teeth and help perfect your smile.
Sometimes due to gum disease, or often just due to age or aggressive tooth brushing, the gums may move “down the tooth,” exposing some of the tooth root. This is called recession.
We can surgically take some gum tissue from a different part of your mouth and apply it to these areas of recession to combat sensitivity and to improve the esthetics of your smile.
